According to ZTL they do not. but there is some private breeders near Walsrode that do have them. So maybe a re-route or new import from US or wildcaught.

Went to the zoo as well today and there was some casual maintenance (presumably) going on at the zoo:

    - Part of the road between the flamingos and vulture aviary was baricaded. No specific indication t why was noted or visible, possibly just maintenance.
    - The former Hispid Cotton Rat, now used for Merriams' kangaroo rat, enclosure was opened up and being worked on. Whether it's cleaning or any form of maintenance for the species or anything else is unknown.
    - The swamp wallabies seem to have received some new vegetation/browse, I speculate it's a enrichment browse as the foliage was placed bundled together and you can still see black tubs at the bottom as it wasn't planted very deeply into the ground.

    - Witnessed the courtship of Socorro dove and the breeding itself, hopefully in time we get news from the zoo of a nest with eggs or chicks being raised for the species!
    - Desert was barricaded again as there was construction happening. Indicating that my speculative point is true, possibly.
    - Desert also got visited by, what I call, R2D2 from Star Wars..

Also sat 2 hours... in the Canyon Aviary in a hope to catch a glimpse of the Montezuma quail, but alas, no success..

That was it for today... Another day coming up tomorrow..

Not many updates today except for 1 that I personally find very exciting!

While I observed the courtship yesterday of the Socorro Doves, I got today a beautiful surprise of there being a actual egg in the nest! 1 beautiful small white egg currently lies in the nest.
I presume it was laid somewhere between my visit yesterday and today as it wasn't there yesterday!

According to the signage the Socorro Dove incubation time is about 2 weeks +/-
Meaning in short time we may see a news of a chick having hatched!

I will certainly be on the look out over the course of the upcoming 2 weeks to see how it goes with the nest, or if the egg gets removed by keepers.

    Updates for the Desert:

I, too, have seen the Montezuma. I suggest going all the way to the back of the visitor area in the canyon and leaniny against the rocks, then you can barely see the corner of the enclosure, that where you can see them best (and take a terrible picture)

In the bighorn sheep enclosure, most of the rocks are finished or being worked on. They only need to be painted at this point. They're also making extra ledges in some spots to make it more difficult for the porcupines to escape

    Extra ledges:

    Finished rockwork:

The fishnet hammocks are back outside the mangrove

A bunch of new baby mangroves have been placed on the crab flats, including some rather big ones

Actually saw them here earlier when I visited with Anubite, but she walked away before I could get a picture (and before anubite could get a peek)

Does anybody know why the dusky langurs are noted as no longer in the zoo on the website? They didn't actually leave the park right?

What a shame that is. Is there any information of when they left? Zootierliste says they still have them, and i didn't see anything on social media about it

    Can't say I know why.

I do think it's a unsurprising one given the initial mix with the gibbons sorta failed and they were mostly kept indoors and behind the scenes and not in the main exhibit.

They have had only 1 animal for over a year now and it was meant to be sent to the UK for quite some time already. Last week the animal was apparently still present, even though the website indicated it was already gone. But if a transport did not happen last week, it is probably imminent.

In my honest opinion, I'd rather see the gibbons go and have another species go with the langur, as to my knowledge the langurs are rather peaceful towards others but gibbons are quite territorial?

But this is the choice they made, and am curious if we are gonna see changes to the enclosure once the last langur is gone.

Is it the case that the zoo holds African lions but that they do not have names?

A damn shame that dusky langurs are attractive and highly endangered.

Also: rare in captivity because of their specialised leaf diet
