All of Arnhem's orangutans moved to other zoos in 2009/10. Maya is now at Sosto with Sarita, Sabatini, Guru, Tigu and Gusa.

Spotted eagle ray 20 and 21 are born. This makes Burgers Zoo the world's most succesfull breeder of this species. It is quite remarkable that in 3.5 year more than 20 ray's were born here... This two will eventually leave to Madrid.

Other births include: Brush turkey, white bearded gnu (5), golden cheeked gibbon, hog deer, blue duiker and some pelicans.

A permit has been given for building the new rhino stable, next to the giraffe stable and a new bird quarantaine building is being built right now on the place of the former gannet aviary.

A ringed seal was born, this is the second time that this has happened in Arnhem, the first one however lived only a few days. This time the youngster looks more healthy :)

Other births the last months include: spectacled langur, pig-tailed macaque, banteng, elds deer, roan antelope, three Bluespotted stingrays and epaulette shark nr. 50!

Further there are several kinds of jubilee activitees, as Burgers Zoo celebrates its 100st aniversary this months, special brief marks have been published and a new book will follow.

This is good news but it would be even better if they weren't 2 different sub-species!

BurgerĀ“s has quite a history with Warthogs. Together with 3 other zoos they imported 12 animals from Gambia during 1997 - animals which had otherwise been killed because they were destroying farmland.
Since then a large number of animals have been bred and the breeding-female which they have at the moment belongs to the most succesfull breeders !
With 3 piglets born Feb. 27 her total number of ofsprings has reached 18 ! One little problem was that sofar she had only given birth to 2 female-babies but by checking the last 3 young 2 of them proofed to be female so now it stands 14 males against 4 females !

Today in the early morning a South American tapir was born at Burger's Zoo. The young was however more death than alive. Luckily a female keeper discovered the young and quickly did mouth to "trunk" resuscitation and could save the young in this way ! Later the young recovered and has been seen drinking by its mother.
This was the first Tapir born at Burgers since 2001.
