a 25 acre bush-fire near the LA Zoo came within 1000 feet of the Californian condor breeding facility, prompting the emergency removal of 18 condors and 2 king vultures. L.A. Zoo reopens after Griffith Park fire - Los Angeles Times
I was really scared when I heard about it, specially cause how close San Diego WAP came to losing it's Condors last year. Good thing the LAFD acted faster this year than last year's Griffith Park fire. I was at the zoo this saturday, and everything looked normal like always. Since I volunteer at the LA zoo, I've been able to see the condor breeding facility that is not visible to the public. No body is allowed to see into the aviaries, not even the keepers, so the closes I've ever been to the facility is about 100 feet.
