Thank you Snowleopard, I guess I should have mentioned that I have visited Calgary once before. I have been to both the Calgary Tower and the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I have also gone to the West Ed, Banff, and the Calgary Zoo! I do plan on going to the museum, Banff, Glacier National Park, and the Calgary Zoo again. Is there anywhere else that you think is of interest Snowleopard? or anyone who has travelled around Calgary!

Thanks for all the places! Well I am going in August maybe the 7 to 15, so for a week and a bit. I am most likely to visit the Calgary Zoo twice for my time there as my Aunt is only off of the weekends so all of the farther away places are going to be done then.

Any tips on doing things in the Calgary Zoo? Which animals to see in the morning any special events, like keeper talks that the zoo does that would be off interest?

As well if anyone has any other places that might be of some interest, feel free to post them.

    Thanks all,

    Quartz.

Does anyone know if the Calgary Zoo plans to breed sloth bears, patas mokeys, giraffe, hippo, bongo, lion, grizzly or black bear, moose, musk ox, snow leopard, red panda, and giant anteaters? According to ISIS they all have the potential to breed.

Although its holding it correctly, I don't think it has any idea of what can be done with it. She put it down quickly too.

I don't believe so. I think they are all at the Devonian Wildlife Centre offsite.

Here is some recent news about the Calgary Zoo

    Penguin Exhibit in details!
Calgary Zoo to build $24.5-million penguin exhibit by next spring

Hopefully all goes well, its a neat scope they have planned, penguins from warmer climates to stay outdoors in the summer, and penguins from colder climates to stay indoors, then in the winter they swap, colder climate penguins outside, warmer climate penguins inside! Neat!

Finally this project is getting the go-ahead! Woodland Park Zoo's new Humboldt penguin exhibit is brilliant and it cost $6.5 million, so having basically quadruple that amount of money should amount to the creation of an awesome penguin habitat. Seeing 80 birds of 4 different species will be a welcome boost to the Calgary Zoo visitors.

The musk ox, giraffe and red panda all have young at the moment. The patas monkeys are no longer at the zoo. They were a very old pair and when the male passed away earlier this year the staff were trying to find a better facility for her. She is now at the Granby zoo with a younger troop.

As for the lions and bears, most of the bears are problem bears taken from the wild so there are no plans on breeding them. The male lion has been steralized so there is no way breeding will happen in the current pride.

Currently Calgary has got a very old pair of hippos. They did try to bring a younger female up from colorado but unfourtunetly she died soon after arrival. So i think they are trying to breed.

Last i heard the zoos female bongo was o breeding loan to another facility,i don't Know which one.The zoo currently has a young male moose and two older females so calves may be in the works and the female snow leopard was recently introduced to a new mate in hopes of breeding.

I don't know about the sloth bears or anteaters.
