Exhibits and Design Summer Internships at National Aquarium-Apply by March 1 National Aquarium | Baltimore | Internships Exhibit Developer Intern Exhibit developer interns provide assistance to the Aquarium's Exhibit Developers who are responsible for conceptualizing and communicating descriptions of exhibit components and visitor experiences. Essential Functions * Assist in researching content for aquarium exhibits-including photo and video research * Assist in front-end and formative evaluation of exhibit concepts * Work with exhibit teams to prototype exhibits and evaluate them with visitors * Research and draft animal ID and other labels as needed * Perform other duties as assigned Requirements * Demonstrated research, writing and organizational skills * Strong background in life sciences, environmental sciences, or related fields * Interest or background in educational or museum studies desirable * Art or design skills helpful * Must be a college junior or senior pursuing a career in museums/aquariums/zoos * Must be able to operate within Microsoft Office systems * Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term. Ideal candidates are able to commit to three days a week and 200 hours. Exhibit Graphic Design Intern Exhibit Graphic Design interns provide assistance to the Aquarium's Exhibit Graphic Designers who are responsible for designing and producing the signage and graphics on the Aquarium campus. Essential Functions * Assist in producing signage * Assist in researching content for graphics-including photos and illustrations * Work with exhibit teams to create prototype exhibit graphics for evaluating with visitors * Work in photoshop to process, clip and edit photographs for use in exhibit graphics * Lay out new animal IDs and other labels as needed * Perform other duties as assigned Requirements * Must be a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in graphic design, or a related field * Must be skilled in Adobe Creative Suites software, able to operate within Microsoft Office systems and have good hand skills-cutting board, sketching, assembling * Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term. Ideal candidates are able to commit to three days a week and 200 hours. Exhibit Design Intern Exhibit Graphic Design interns provide assistance to the Aquarium's Exhibit Designers who are responsible for designing and producing new exhibit experiences. Essential Functions * Assist in researching materials and products * Work with exhibit teams to prototype exhibits and evaluate them with visitors * Work in Vectorworks to draft drawings under the direction of the exhibit designer * Produce design presentations in Vectorworks and inDesign * Perform other duties as assigned Requirements * Experience with building physical models for prototyping * Excellent verbal and visual communication skills * Strong interest in and knowledge of the field of zoo/aquarium/museum exhibit design * Must be a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in exhibit or industrial design, architecture, or a related field * Must be skilled in Vectorworks, familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite software, especially InDesign and Illustrator and competent in Microsoft Office systems; must have good hand drawing skills and basic building skills * Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term.
