I think this is some great news, Adelaide zoo is doing well with old "phase out species" - they now have both young capybara and mara. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.832873926740714.1073741836.160021607359286&type=1
I saw the title of the thread and thought "Woo, more capybaras!" but then realised which part of the world it was and realised it was slightly more significant than I first thought!
I know I've said this before, but I really enjoy Adelaide zoo because it perseveres with species regarded as "phase-outs." Likewise the smaller zoos at which I can still see some of those animals. While I can understand the cold-blooded reasoning behind Aussie zoos having fewer species, as an average visitor I don't want to see less and less animals each time I visit. Maybe I'm being unrealistic. If so, then as far as I'm concerned, the "Golden Age" of Australian zoos has gone.....
there is a photo just posted on Adelaide Zoo's Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/AdelaideZo...0021607359286/906874282674011/?type=1&theater) of a row of presumably the babies referred to in this thread (born in April) -- but there are six of them not five.
