Caused by floods/thunderstorms several large carnivores have escaped from the Eifel-Zoo: 1 Brown bear, 2 Tigers, 2 Lions and 1 Jaguar. The bear has been shot already the other animals are still roaming free and people are urged to stay inside.

A Jaguar escape is probably the worst thing that could happen to a zoo....

How on earth do 6 large carnivores escape? Flooding?

Somehow at least four different enclosures failed?

I assume the bear was shot dead? :( Not with tranquilliser...

I imagine the other animals will end up the same way :/

Edit: BBC reporting escapes are due to flooding. Lions, tigers, jaguar escape German zoo

Exactly. Would be very worried until it is captured or shot.

All remaining animals are captured according to media reports

    The storyline read:
"In den Anlagen des Tierparks sei es aufgrund eines Unwetters mit starken Niederschlägen zu "Überschwemmungen" gekommen, berichtete der SWR. Ein Fluss sei über die Ufer getreten, heißt es. Die Wassermassen hätten unter anderem auch Zäune unterspült. Durch die Beschädigungen am Gehege konnten die beiden Löwen, die zwei Tiger, der Bär und der Jaguar ausbrechen."

The above meaning extreme flooding destroyed the fencing surrounding the carnivore housing and exhibits. Mind: flash-flooding can cause extreme destruction and so this was a most extra ordinary event. All carnivores except for the bear - which had to be shot - have since been re-captured.

Once more, this makes me wonder: all too often it is copy cat journalism without checking nor following up the original story. It literally took me a mere 3 minutes to arrive at the above informaton. Well if can do that why not a professional journalist?

According to the latest German newsflash, only the bear had escaped its enclosure; the rest of the carnivores were and still are in their enclosures (thanks to aerial drone images).
As for the (moon) bear: as far I know (and please do correct me if I'm wrong), that particular specimen had been involved in two attacks on humans in the past (one against intruding visitors, the other against the zoo founder); that might have contributed to the final decision to shoot it.
