I'm trying to put together a list of places in the USA and Canada that currently keep cheetahs. Their stud book is public and is a huge help, but the most recent numbers are from 2015 so could be out of date, especially for places with low numbers; Fort Worth, for example, is listed in it, but they currently don't have any as the exhibit was destroyed during the creation of the new savanna area (their plan is to add them back in during a future expansion). I've split the list into places with 3 or less animals (the most likely to no longer have the species), 4-10, and then 10+. The actual number of animals isn't as important to me as whether the institution still has the species, along with any that aren't on this list that now keep them. Can't give you exact numbers, but when I visited in late march this year, Kansas City had at least 4 cheetahs
May a moderator please move this to the North America general sub forum? Also Zoo Tampa no longer holds cheetahs.
Not to be picky, but Wildlife Safari is in OR, not ON. Other than that, thank you for posting, this is pretty cool!
They rotate what's at the zoo with what's in Front Royal fairly often, from my understanding? They're one in particular I'm not too concerned about the numbers for, since the cubs definitely won't all be staying there. I'm interested to see where they go! Thanks! Completely a typo on my part, I've been there Two of the cheetahs did a painting for me, it was an amazing experience.
Honestly, no clue. Two of them came from the San Diego Safari Park back in December and the other was moved to the zoo from Front Royal in 2012 (unless he has moved back and forth between the DC and Front Royal campuses since then).
This thread is no longer active and hasn't been updated since 2018, I'd completely forgotten about it tbh. But thanks for the update on what Busch Gardens has.
@Robyn Graham if cheetahs are of interest to you, you might be interested in the more recent cheetah population thread found here: https://www.zoochat.com/community/threads/north-american-cheetah-population.483674/page-4
