Chester Zoo Chester Zoo 2015 #2

I was at the zoo on Saturday and watched a chevrotain walk through from a small pen at the back to the aviary on the right hand end, so they do have access to a more viewable enclosure.

 

The two additional birds, both female, have just fledged. They were bred at the zoo.

Also just fledged are the Sumatran laughing thrush chicks in the aviary at the entrance to the Tropical House.

 

I wonder if these will be moving to Islands?

 

Thanks - the extra birds looked young but I didn't want to assert they'd bred without being sure!

 

They could do, but I was told earlier in the year that there would be a new
import would be for Islands.

red-whiskered bulbul, snowy-crowned robin chat, waldrapp ibis, Cape teal.

 

Chester just been announced as the number 1 zoo in the UK again by Trip Advisor. 4th in Europe, 7th in the world.

This is before Islands has opened. Think it will climb up the European and world rankings next year as a result of Islands?

 

this is good for Chester .... i Really hope they do climb up the rankings once the Zoo is how it should be with the Islands ... I love chester , been going there since i was born ( 40 years )

Chester being number 1 is one of the few things right on the list, really most of it is pointless, some of it laughable!!

 

i can't comment on any of the others listed as i've never been to them only Colchester many years ago and got in free with my membership card

 

I spotted a baby porcupine today

 

Giraffe house closed today with birth signs posted outside.

 

0.1 Roan antelope born.

*GIRAFFE CALF BORN!*
Our keepers have just grabbed the very first pic of a new giraffe calf - born yesterday to mum Orla!
Orla gave birth at 6:50am yesterday and her (not-so) little youngster was up and suckling soon after. We've yet to discover if our new arrival is male or female but as soon as we find out, we'll let you know what name our keepers have chosen.
The giraffe house is closed at the moment to give Orla and her calf some important bonding time together. However the rest of the herd can be seen out on the paddock.
This latest arrival means we've had not one... not two... but THREE rare Rothschild's giraffe calves born in the space of just eight months. So go on, give us a LIKE if this news puts a smile on your face!

 

Can anybody offer any info on when/where the Aye-Aye may be on display in the future?


A Member Preview would be better than Islands for some of us!

 

After the capuchins move to Monkey house

 

So maybe not a long wait?

(Presuming the capuchins are moving to the Sulawesi Macaque enclosure following their move to Islands?)

 

My understanding is that most likely the Lion-tailed Macaques will move to the vacated Sulawesis enclosure, then the capuchins will replace the Lion-taileds - leaving the capuchin enclosure to be modified for its new occupants.


(plans subject to change, as ever!)

 

I always thought having two large groups of very similarly coloured(black) Macaques in that house was a bit of a duplication. With the Sulawesies rehoused in Islands, and Capuchins in there instead, the display in the Monkey House will be more varied now.

 

Anyone know what will replace the Capuchins in their exhibit?
