Worth a mention - the bush dogs no longer inside Spirit of the Jaguar. On a recent visit the jaguar was back inside, and showing beautifully I have to say making full use of the space. I am pleased about this decision.
Is not the long term plan to have the bush dogs nearer the jags (as to direct next to Asiatic lions now)?
I thought that might be the case, but hadn't actually seen them with my own eyes last week. Thanks for confirming.
Hello which side are the tiger cubs savanna or waterfall? I'm hoping waterfall but I guess the savanna side is more likely
Thanks anyway , I guess that was the best available space for them as the Jaguars are already in the waterfall area The savanna isn't the best enclosure for viewing but it will be great when the Tigers can move into the new Islands area when it's ready
There is only 1 enclosure for tigers in Islands which will be for the breeding pair. I assume the offspring will be sent elsewhere in the future? There are plans to add a second tiger enclosure but not sure about the timescales of when this will happen.
Is only 1 half of the islands tiger enclosure being built at first then, as 2 are on the plans, I know the Komodos are an later additional, also the Tapirs I believe
Giraffe Aoife has given birth to her second calf, born yesterday morning, the zoo have announced via social media.
A few quick notes from a quick visit on Christmas Eve,the Poison Dart Frogs in the 2 large glass vivs are still off show in the Tropical Realm. The Timor Zebra Finch are nolonger on-show in the Realm of the Red Ape.Golden Heart Doves are now in the Tropical Realm,Turkish Spiny Mouse were not on-show in Fruit Bat Forest. Some very young Giant Pipefish are on-show in the Aquarium.A display about the early years of Chester Zoo has gone opposite the Javan Banteng.
Giraffe house re-opened to the public when the zoo re-opened on Saturday. The calf is (another) female and has been named Zahra, which is Swahili for 'flower'. Not that anybody on here actually cares about that bit. Would I be right in saying that every surviving giraffe calf at Chester in the last decade has been female?
If you take survival to mean living past 30 days then no, but you were close.
