You are correct. I’ll amend my first posting. Edit: Could one of the mods change Ajan to Anjan in my previous post, I’m unable to do it myself and it would be much appreciated.
He is named in honour of Anjan Nath. From the Chester Chronical: "Zookeepers chose the name Anjan in honour of Anjan Nath, one of the leading conservation figures the zoo works with on a project in Assam, northern India, which has successfully eliminated conflict between local communities and the nearby Asian elephant population, offering a blueprint for the future conservation of the species"
Chester Zoo are working with a community of nuns in Mexico to breed an endangered species of Axolotl, the Achoque The nuns helping save a sacred species There is also a Radio 4 programme about this, The Sisters of the Sacred Salamander BBC Radio 4 - The Sisters of the Sacred Salamander
Lake Patcuaro Salamander Ambystoma dumerilii. Chester Zoo has held the species for quite a considerable time.
The baby One Horned Rhino is a little boy and has been named Akeno, meaning "beautiful sunrise". This is why Chester Zoo lets their staff name the animals as opposed to letting the public have a say!
I once let my class choose the name for the class gerbil. I might have somewhat fudged the results so that the least ridiculous name was chosen. I have never let the children choose a name for the class pets ever since!
this was posted by Chester Zoo on facebook yesterday: This birth follows a five-year-long scientific project, which has carefully assessed the genetics of ALL chimpanzees in zoos across Europe. The study has confirmed that the chimps here at Chester are the highly threatened West African subspecies – one of the rarest in the world – establishing the group of 20 here as a critically important breeding population. They are in fact, the first ever chimpanzee subspecies to join the list of critically endangered great apes, so this little addition is a very important boost.
From Chester council planning portal: Approval has been granted for the development of the offshow holding area off Caughall Road to the East of the existing zoo
The zoo have confirmed the birth of 5 Asian short clawed otter pups: 4 females and a single male. They’re looking for names for them all so if you have any, see their social media.
I am really surprised that this news hasn't got people more interested, but then how do you compete with a baby Chimp.Because without this being built Grasslands cannot be started,so its very important to the future development of the zoo!!!
Same here and glad you are back on. And yes agreed: this is really a major step forward in the expansion plans for Chester Zoo. Be interesting to see when all goes into high gear! Had not yet had the chance to catch up with the confirmation that planning permission been granted. But please also note the original postings in January (#10 till #12) when the new complex was just being announced officially.
Its not me returning back to the site,as I have far more important things to do than spend all hours trawling through here, like staying alive and well! Now to crawl off into the sunset again and do my own thing again.
