Speaking as the person that sowed the seed of the idea of where to get them from in the curator of mammals mind,I can say its not been an easy path to acquire them, its been a hard over 2 year struggle by many staff to get them!

When been there, met American family from Nebraska, who were visiting Chester, mainly because they followed the Zoo's tv show. They were big fans of Bronx, but never been in Omaha zoo.

Is 'Mountain' Bongo is just another term for Eastern Bongo, making these the same species as those in other UK zoos like Howletts or Whipsnade and other zoos worldwide. Is that correct?

Yes, that's correct, mountain bongo is an alternative name for eastern bongo Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci

Chester Zoo - 2019 Headline News Summary

It’s been an exciting year for Chester Zoo, who have welcomed the following births:

    Two Socorro doves
    Two radiated tortoises
    Two Rothschild’s giraffes
One Dusky pademelon (possibly two more according to @TeaLovingDave)
    One black lemur
    Five ring-tailed lemurs
    Two Nepalese red pandas
    One Malayan tapir
    One West African chimpanzee
    Three Rock hyrax
A sh_t load (150+) of Large heath caterpillars
    One Eastern bongo
    One Sumatran orangutan
    Five Babirusa
Two collared trogon chicks (thought to be a world’s first)
Two Giant otters (no media release, but two pups have been sighted by ZC members)
    Five Asian small-clawed otters

There were no Asian elephant calves born this year, though Indali’s recovery from EEHV was a pioneering and remarkable achievement in itself.

Two million people visited the zoo this year breaking every attendance record since its opening in 1931.

There was also the opening of the new Asian lion habitat and the Madagascar habitat.

All the baby animals born at Chester Zoo in 2019

A few figures are off in that list, mind you :p both incorrect numbers (there were three pademelon births, I believe) and omitted species (giant otter for a start).

Does anyone know if the zoo think she may be immune to further attack from this particular strain of the virus, having recovered from it once?

The West African Chimpanzee birth should actually be listed as hybrid as the Dam isn’t pure West African but a hybrid herself.

Wasn't the point of Chester's breeding hiatus to make sure this didn't happen?
