As a teenager I thought tis exhibit was great, now I realise just how bad it was. A big problem was the feeding of objects to the penguins by visitors.

only 10 weeks late. I love the British builder, they are lightning slow.

Pretty sure the only thing slower than them is the zoos media team when it comes to reporting tuatara births :p:p

I had a quick look around the penguin enclosure today whilst at the zoo & viewing both underwater & of the rest of the enclosure is hugely improved.

It even looks a treat just from the video, well needed and a great result.

The most important improvement should be invisible (at least until you go round the back of the exhibit). I trust that there is now a bigger and better filtration system.

A male giant anteater named Oso has arrived at the zoo.

I noticed that the zoos website announced the birth of one of the world's rarest deers. Oh dear!

The new male anteater has come from South Lakes who no longer hold the species.

Oso is a sweet name. Maybe he is a bit bear-like. Fingers crossed he and the female will have a Bliss-ful partnership together! Bad jokes day today, like!

Visited Yesterday not much to report really.
Aardvarks are still in with the meerkats and porcupines off show. Seems to be some major work being done to the aardvark enclosure.
Saw the painted dog cubs and Mum now in with dad all feeling off a carcass. Highlight of my day.
Islands was the usual tigers were active,Male sun bear, tapirs everything you’d expect other than(and this is not just for islands) but all the aviary at the zoo wear closed with avian flu signs up.
Lowland Anoa now have three enclosures within the zoo: islands, next to the spotted deer and the cattle house.
We spoke to one of the primate keepers who told us that the old orang house had been in use by all the borneon orangs from time to time until the Sumatrans moved to islands and until just before Christmas tuan had been living on his own in there.
Cheetahs were active in front of the viewing windows.
The big thing we learnt yesterday is the time for the new Madagascarn area which the keeper told us will be at least another twelve months before it is open fully.
The penguin pool is brilliant and spacious a massive improvement.
I have some pictures but not sure about how good they are will post them in the gallery soon.

Since they moved to their new enclosure I see so little of Milli, yet always see Toni. A number of other people I have heard from recently have also only seen him and not her. It always used to be the other way around!

So the Madagascar area has been delayed. It was meant to be open in September but to be honest it doesn't look at all like it will be completed by then.
