New species for the zoo: Sun Conures They recently arrived and will be on exhibit when the zoo reopens. Their names are Paczki, Crumpet, Flapjack, Waffle, Croissant, Challah, Tortilla, Strudel, Danish, Pumpernickel, Ciabatta, Biscuit and Brioche. 1.0 Blue and Gold Macaw dies: Samson died on May 19th and nobody knew his real age because when he arrived to the zoo he was already 30 years old. His mate Bertha, passed away 5 years ago, on April 28th, 2015. San Clemente Island goats and Black Welsh Mountain sheep arrive: They arrived on April 28th, the goats are named Troy, Verona, Elmira, Savannah, Seneca and Ithica. The sheep is named Aurora. 0.1 Black Crow dies: Edgar was one of the oldest crows in captivity on records in North America. She hatched on May 1994 and died on April 14th. She was 25 years old and she ended up at the zoo because when she was a chick, somebody took her and raised her as a pet. As a result, US Fish and Wildlife Service confiscated her and she ended on Saginaw Children's Zoo. She will live on the tropical building along the cotton-top tamarins. When he was born, the farmers noticed he had Scoliosis and Kyphosis. On January 18th, he was sadly euthanized due to deteriorating mobility issues. Other zoo news in 2020: On July 8th, it was reported that the zoo's carousel and train were to be shut down until the state entered Phase 5 of the COVID Recovery Plan. 2021 News: On April 14th, the zoo announced that they have acquired (0.2) llamas named Bandana and Charlie.
