Some of the power struggles we see in human groups are evident in chimps; particularly politics among males. Jimmy and Paco, two male chimps now about 35 and 27 respectively currently reside in the bachelor group of 14 animals. If You Can remember back in 2005 both these chimps lived in another group which by then comprised of 24 chimpanzees ruled by the terrific Paddy. Jimmy ranked as number two and from what i watched on MB he was a paranoid, irritable deputy and Paco must have ranked 3 for Jimmy to see him as a threat. Following an altercation with Jimmy and his female followers, the oppressed and nervous Paco was moved to the bachelors, needless to say where he has thrived! Whats interesting is that two years later2007 the power-hungry Jimmy was ousted from Paddy's troop by the fed up alpha male and his females and placed in the bachelor group where he saw his nemesis Paco again. Surprisingly unlike humans, the two chimps seemed to have Just forgotten their previous rivalry and have lived harmoniously ever since. If anything.....Paco now ranks higher?
