76 European crayfish from Citadelle de Besancon were released in a stream in the area Alsace. This is already the second time Citadelle de Besancon provided crayfish for the this re-introduction-project :) .

You're right Kifaru. There is no other way out if the european zoos want to keep this species.

Very sad news about Saminka, not even eight years old.

The Mayor of Besançon said in a recent article that the big cats will leave the zoo in the future (no date mentionned).

What is the reason for this decision? (This will be a big loss for the zoo and surely not help to bring back more visitors)

In some cities and areas people are more and more concerned by animal welfare and now politics are acting for it.
The Citadelle as not enough space and a lot of people think they can't hold big cats. The same for primates who are housed in too small aviaries without trees...

Then create space or expand the zoo facility! It seems more a lack of political will and lack of a an y credible future vision for the zoo. Also quite easy to say what you do not want rather then what would be nice to haves or might be wonderful additions for Besancon in future.

There is hardly an option to create any space and if the former cat enclosures can be used to enlarge the primate facilities it is a win for the zoo
