According to an email from the Cleveland Zoological Society, Asian Highlands will now open in the summer.

There was a typo in CZS email. It is summer, not fall.

 

I had forgotten for a moment about Asian Highlands opening so soon. I look forward to seeing it!

 

Hopefully more cheetah exhibit info will come out soon. There has been some changes since the last drawings were made public. There is a building now involved with the project.

 

That's good I think. Giving the public a place to learn more about the animals is always something beneficial. I felt like as great as Tiger Passage is, it does miss a little bit of an indoor enclosure to solidify the information about the animals and their habitat. It looks like they are moving with a large plan overall, these are just little exhibits that have been needed that they can knock out relatively quickly.

You may have ‘herd,’ we’re expecting another addition!

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo now has two pregnant rhinos. Kibibbi, a 14-year-old Eastern black rhino, is due next month. And now, we’re excited to announce that Inge, a 24-year-old Eastern black rhino is expecting a calf this fall.

This will be Inge’s fifth calf. These pregnancies prove to be important ones for the species; of the 57 eastern black rhinos located in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) zoos in North America, four were born in the past year.

Listed as critically endangered, less than 750 Eastern black rhinos remain in the wild due to poaching and habitat loss. Guests can help the Zoo secure a future for rhinos by supporting our efforts to reduce poaching and the illegal trade of rhino horn.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announces birth of newborn rhino calf

 

Does anyone know the gender of the calf?

 

The rhino calf is a girl.

 

Does Cleveland still have Clouded Leopards? Or were they sent to another Zoo?

 

I do not think they have had clouded leopards for around a decade. Before the aye-aye came. They were sent somewhere in the central part of the country I think. It has been awhile.

 

The Cleveland Metroparks Board approved renovating the Wilderness Trek restrooms next to the new Asian Highlands. Warning: While these restrooms are closed for remodel the closest restrooms are near the giraffe deck and near the hospital and rhinos.

This article cropped up in some click-bait sidebar; I thought it was well-written, and interesting - and certainly worth interesting. I'm not sure how scientifically rigorous it is.

Because I’ve heard so many people saying this exhibit is being refurbished and this one is that other than Asian Highlands idk what’s actually happening.

 

The zoo is fixing up the outdoor gorilla exhibit because it is no longer several old men just sitting around. The new females are more active and netting has to be installed to the exhibit. A new exhibit could materialize as early as 2020/2021, but this is not set in stone. The only things that are known are the outdoor gorilla renovation, the Welcome Pavilion, and Asian Highlands for 2018. The new cheetah exhibit for 2019.
