Elephant bulls Sang Raja (23) and La Min Kyaw (6) have left the zoo for Pont-Scorff/France, where a new male bachelor group is being started with them. They spent the night in Paris Zoo and have arrived safely in their new home.

Bindu was the dominant bull until last year. Then dominance shifted and Sang Raja became very aggressive against Bindu. They had to be kept seperated ever since. I am pretty sure that is the real reason why Sang Raja was moved; the management of the two bulls must have been difficult and stressful for everyone involved (elephants and keepers).

Paris Zoo? Surely they must have been in their crates all night, because there's no facilities for housing them temporarily over there!

I’m assuming so, I doubt it was the Menagerie. Could be wrong though.

They only mentioned "the zoo of Paris", so I don't know where exactly either unfortunately.

Recently, the zoo bred green burrowing frogs (Scaphiophryne marmorata) for the first time. The animals arrived from Plzen/CZ in October 2021 and live behind the scenes of the Aquarium.

Some not yet reported news from my visit today:
    - Some of the birds from the Regenwaldhaus can temporarily be seen in the Fasanerie and are also signed there, e.g. the great argus & knobbed hornbill.
    - The zoo was quite crowded as I expected on a so-called "bridge day" in Germany (the day between a public holiday and the weekend), but it still annoyed me at times :p unfortunately, despite this, almost all food and drink stalls in the zoo were closed
    - In addition to the already reported young, I also saw a very young muskox which was probably born not too long ago
    - Some birds are breeding currently, I saw at least the black storks, red-crowned crane and siberian crane sitting on the nest. The black storks are hatched already, could get a glimpse underneath the parent, and the siberian crane stood up for a moment so I could see the eggs.

One thing I forgot: The free-flight aviary next to the Regenwaldhaus is completely empty, even the signs are gone. I saw a milky stork at the old elephant house, but I don't know where or why the other birds are gone. May be related to the fire. The aviary, and the nocturnal room of the house are open to pass through, however.
The sugar glider enclosure was barred off, though. Same goes for the hausa genet in the Hippodom, but I suspect that the genet has passed away and the enclosure will be used for other animals.

    - A couple days ago, female orang-utan "Cajunga" had to be put down due to bad health related to some kind of tumor.

    - The black stork chicks have now been officially announced, it's three

    - About five weeks ago, the siberian crane egg hatched and is being raised by the keepers
