The Columbus Zoo and The Wilds will be featured on a TV series called Zoo Life on Nat Geo Wild. Details will come out later according to their Facebook but they commented that it’ll be six 1 hour episodes.
Columbus Partnership is requesting funds for various projects around Columbus - one of which is a new orangutan complex. State money requested for COSI and new orangutan habitat at Columbus Zoo
I hope to get out to the zoo this weekend and will check out the status of the construction. You can see the scope of the construction as of October here.
Any news on the zoo’s plans with rhinos? Are they bringing in more/new black rhinos or are they adding Indian rhinos ive heard both. I hope they get black or white rhinos and put them in Heart of Africa like planned (in their own exhibit). Also I wouldn’t mind meerkats.
And we have our first rendering (at least that I've seen) of the new seal lion area. According to the banner hanging on the construction wall it's now called Adventure Cove. Looks like there's an underwater tunnel and a 250 seat theater.
I literally thought that was a real sea lion behind a wooden fence with a banner behind it at first glance!
I’m guessing Macaws and Sloths will be exhibited considering they’re on the cover. It wouldn’t surprise me if the African Penguins aren’t in the one with the pool. I’d personally love to see lemurs and the seriema in exhibits. Also wouldn’t be too bad if the small toothed civet or the raven/crow get an exhibit.
New renderings of the sea lion/animal encounter village area have now been added to the construction fence at the zoo. I was also surprised to see that the old zoo entrance has now been demolished (the old ticket booth area from the Wyandot Lake days).
According to the new breeding/transfer plans, a female sloth bear is coming in Spring 2018 from Europe.
The beginning of my long awaited tour of the Columbus Zoo - and I start with one of the public's favorites.
