Congo approves oil drilling in Virunga and Salonga National Parks

    This is devestating news and aim suprised it isn't making headlines around the world. It clearly shows where the priorities of the Congolose government lies, despite the political chaos in the country and the ever growing humanitarian crisis in the eastern parts of Congo (and increasingly elsewhere in the country) they decide to go ahead with this .

    As amplified in the Virunga movie released a few years ago this will bring nothing positive to a region already torn apart following decades of armed conflicts and wars, largely fuelled due to it's massive deposits of natural resources which have been systematically plundered by international companies for decades. Over 21% of Virunga National Park will be declassified and opened up for oil exploration.
