New pair from China for Japan : China to provide Japan with crested ibis pair as ties improving:The Asahi Shimbun
The current status in Japan is 284 wild born / reintroduced birds in the wild with another 195 at the Breeding / Reintroduction Center. PR. China also donated birds to South Korea and there they hold 171 birds at a captive-breeding facility. First releases were planned for 2017 (anyone find any news items ... welcome). In PR. China itself the total number of birds is considered now to be over 2,000 including about half in the wilds in Shaanxi Province.
