New additions for 2015 : 1) Hooded vulture has been added to the Wings of Wonder 2) Permanent animatronic dinosaurs will be placed in the Picnic Ridge area. I don't know the size of the collection, what's in the collection, or if the train ride will be removed. They have barely started construction.
They will still have a cheetah run. Judging from the description in the article, I would assume they're getting rid of that shopping mall train.
Dallas Zoo recently acquired an almost 10 year old female Sumatran Tiger. Hadiah came to the Phoenix Zoo from Woodland Park Zoo almost 6 years ago and never hit it off with the resident male Jai. SSP hopes she'll get along better with Dallas' male and the Phoenix Zoo will get another female sometime this Spring. She was a favorite of many who visited our zoo and she will be missed.
Spoonbills have been added to the lesser flamingo exhibit in the Wilds of Africa. Five years from now, there will be an orangutan exhibit next to the the tiger area.
1) The caracaras at the Wings of Wonder have been replaced by a species of vulture. Cant remember the name. 2) More species of waterfowl have been added to the flamingo pond. Don't know the name because the signs haven't been updated yet. 3) For reasons unknown, they still haven't done much in terms of construction regarding the dino exhibit.

The zoo welcomed a baby giraffe tonight. Interestingly enough, the labor and birthing process was broadcast live on Animal Planet's website. This footage will be aired in a special on the television network that will also feature footage of the prenatal care and prep that goes into an impending giraffe birth along with info on the giraffe herds daily care. Giraffe's birth, first steps streamed live from Dallas Zoo
I watched the birth on my tablet. The first "live birth" I've ever seen so it was pretty neat. I got home from work shortly after Katie went into the labor and my tablet, when I turned it on, was on my Gmail account so the first thing I saw was an email that she'd gone into labor. It was pretty cool.

I watched the birth of Kipenzi as well! Very exciting and the Dallas Zoo and Animal Planet did a good job. They had a good Q&A, and having the birth narrated was useful. Lots of viewers probably had no clue what was really going on, with the birth, or afterwards, so the narration was a great idea.
