Last night a Capucine monkey was born at Oliemeulen. Hopefully this young will do better than last years young which was killed by another Capucine.
Went 2 times to the Oliemeulen in the last 2 weeks. Since my last visit ( about 7 months ago ) many animals have switched enclosures and several are gone ( left the collection or are behind the scenes ). The 2 headed snake, the armadillos, the Jungle python and many other have switched and the Pyranhas have gone completly ! Also some new species like - at least one - Banded Fijian iguana and a beautifull Blossom mantis. Last week a New Caledonian gecko hatched.
Visited de Oliemeulen last weekend and a few changes have occured : Fiji iguana not anymore on display Black and white tegu not on display anymore Boa constrictor not on display - enclosure being renovated Collared lizard not on display anymore Green basilisk not on display anymore Prehensile-tailed skink not on display anymore ( don't know if these species are complete gone or if they are behind the scenes ) New ( at least for me ) : a Steppe eagle - displayed with the birds used in the bird-show.
Regulary exhibitions are held at de Oliemeulen and at the moment there is a small exibition about Butterflies. Therefor I went today to have a look and in a small room there were a lot of stuffed Butterflies, several tanks with different species caterpillars and then I started to count the free-flying butterflies and was finish quite fast..... 1 ! Evenso it looked quite nice and several of the stuffed specimens were new to me. Also in the rest of the park little had changed but in the Bird-show a new species was added : Crested seriema. Also saw the African eagle owl chick for the first time - is already almost full-grown.
