1.1 American Black Bear cubs born 22nd January (birth just announced) the first Dutch breeding in 25 years
Zie-ZOO was already one of the very few zoos with a special aviary for Gulls but this one has now been put down. At another place in the zoo a larger Walk-through aviary has now been build. The Gulls seem to be fine with the new aviary and 2 Lesser black-backed gulls have hatched. More eggs are being incubated at the moment so maybe more Gull-babies in the near future .
New species for Zie-ZOO : Egyptian mongoose - which makes Zie-ZOO the only zoo in the Netherlands with this species. Also a ( or more ) Marsh mongoose has entered the collection ( not the one on the pictures in the Gallery becuse that one lives normaly privatly with on of the keepers ).
According to Zootierliste, the news additions are: 2.2 Egyptian mongoose 3.3 Marsh mongoose Zie-zoo is probably the zoo with the best collection of mongooses in Europe, or at least when several species currently still of show are put on display. On display: - meerkat - kusimanse - dwarf mongoose - yellow mongoose - banded mongoose Of show: - Marsh mongoose - Egyptian mongoose - Slender mongoose (They also have ring-tailed mongooses on show, but those are in fact not true mongooses)
Are there any plans to have these animals on show in the near future? Zie Zoo is shaping up into a very interesting collection....
I haven't heard anything about them going on show, but you should keep in mind both Egyptian and Marsh mongooses were only added to the collection this weekend. (though they kept a Marsh mongoose before) Zie-zoo does have quite a collection off show, but they seem to be building new enclosures, so I suspect it is just a matter of time before several species currently kept off show will be put on display. Maybe the mongooses too.

The 3 young Tayras - which are still in their birth-box - have been sexed and are 1 male and 2 females .
2 new species entered the collection : 2 pairs of Bobak marmots are kept still behind the scenes Silver foxes ( mutation of the European red fox ) are on display in the old Striped hyena enclosure.
