Really awful, lazy piece from today's Guardian, trotting out the usual old rubbish about zoos, and hitching it to the Seaworld 'non-breeding' decision and the 'secret' arrival of African elephants in the USA. I hadn't heard of Ms Davies, but have now found out she is the General Director of Parque das Aves, in Brazil. And with rhetoric like this, she is my new zoo hero....
Thanks for posting this information as it was an enlightening read. I particularly enjoyed the remarks on vaccinations (which I 100% support) as it can be a touchy subject for parents that choose not to vaccinate their children.
I did not bother to read the original article, but I read the response you posted and I agree, it is eloquent.
