From the zoo matters magazine, Kituba the gorilla died after a short term illness. Kyna the female Asian lion born in 2015 moved to Helsinki Zoo and Kepala the 11 year old Sumatran Tiger has moved to zoo in Israel. Six white cheeked pintails from Castle Espie Zoo in Northern Ireland will join the Flamingo Lagoon. Also the Roberts House (1902) will become Zoorassic World, a dinosaur learning experience which will also be home to 11 types of reptiless and also toucan.
Good: We now know what happened to the Sumatran tigers, the lion cubs are on the move, and new species will finally be joining the flamingos in their underused aviary. Bad: Another zoo with a cheap, dinosaur exhibit that could be used for better porpoises, another gorilla death.
Sad news about Kituba. When did he pass away? I enjoyed seeing him grow on The Zoo tv programme. Has the baby gorilla been sexed and named yet?
Series 7 will air in Ireland from January The previous three series (four, five and six) have finally now been released on DVD as a boxset (available via the zoo's website)
Kituba died in September. Despite being almost six months old the latest baby has still not been named nor its sex officially announced- I keep being told the zoo 'will announce this soon' and run a naming competition. I have a strong suspicion this one is a female though.
Your suspicion was wrong Its a little boy - still no name though Animal magic at Dublin Zoo as new arrivals join the pack in 2016
I was wrong wasn't I.... That is five males she's had in a row- Kesho, Alf, Evindi, Kituba and now this one. Only her firstborn Grace( now at Wuppertal) was female.
Edit; after Grace, additionally Lena had a second livebirth that was also female, though it DNS, but her subsequent five babies have all been males. Interesting the sex of this most recent baby has still not AFAIK been announced anywhere on the Zoo's own site, only in a newspaper article.
Sad news about Kituba. How old was he?I'm guessing because gorillas gestation between babies is 3-5 years he is a round about that age.He must be really young. BennettL
Got to the Gorillas just before their afternoon feeding today, Vana and Tebogo outside while everyone else inside. Must be going through introductions still
AFAIK they still are. They were sent to Dublin because Harry proved a tolerant 'overseer' for younger handraised ones. Of course his death last year rather negates that but they can still be integrated okay I'm sure. Apparently there are no plans to bring in a new silverback- presumably due to the new baby, so these two may grow up in a rather leaderless group. Worth noting that Tebogo is also now the only male there apart from Lena's new baby.
Eastern Bongo calf born on the 5th of January to parents Hodari and Nanyuki: Dublin Zoo celebrates the birth of a healthy Bongo Calf
