According to the zoo's Twitter account, their Nile Crocs have been found to actually be West African Crocs (C. suchus). https://twitter.com/DublinZoo/status/482229674979102720
for an out-of-towner, this means what? Other Nile crocs in Irish/UK/European zoos are of other species?
Nile Crocodiles are Crocodylus niloticus. The Desert or West African Crocodile (Crocodylus suchus) was split from the Nile Crocodile a few years ago but at the time of the split there was only one known individual in Europe which derived from the population in question. However, more and more Desert Crocodiles are popping up here and there as collections take a closer look at their "Nile" Crocodiles.
How many crocodiles do they have? Is this the pair on loan from Copenhagen? The pair kept at this zoo were determined to be West African earlier this year and I guess the second pair on loan could be from the same stock?
A new update posted on the zoos Facebook today that Yasmin still hasn't popped "anytime now" in the zoos words...
