Wait, so if they're going to be extending the enclosure for the new Brown Bears when they arrive, won't that mean their enclosure's going to be built over the existing Guanaco/Rhea paddock? and if so, what will happen to them?

Does that mean 'Bears' has won the visitor vote for which of three exhibits to upgrade next, or simply that they still plan to bring back the Bears anyway at some date?

The article also says that they're aiming to bring back brown bears in the future and that it is one of three proposals they’re currently canvassing opinion for from supporters, including adapting the chimp enclosure to enable them to bring in males to the all-female group and extending the tiger enclosure.

I should probably have copied the article in full!!

European brown bears in the Bear Ravine, Extension to the Tiger enclosure, New extension to the Snow leopards enclosure, Out door extension for the Orangutans,
All looking good but what about the Bird species at the zoo, they say they are going to make the Parrot aviaries into one good idea but when?
The aviaries by the Barbary Sheep are way over grown and they need to be refurbished and them stupid conifer's need removing completely.
The Lemur walk through needs a good pruning and the path needs sorting out again another great enclosure gone out of control due to lack of gardening skills.
Theirs plenty of land around the collection to bring in new species they just need to bring in mountain species and the management need to start looking forward and not just if we make a exhibit larger the people will keep coming, they may do but in smaller numbers and eventually not at all.

I've just noticed there's a few things Zootierliste have forgotten to add in for Dudley's inventory:

    • Giant Anteater should've been added into the current inventory last year after Romy arrived from Olomouc Zoo in Czech Republic. But obviously they've clearly forgotten to do that at the time when they should've done so.
    • Bush Dogs are still listed in the zoo's former inventory and should've been placed back into the current inventory sometime ago after the three new females had arrived from Twycross.
    • Azara's Agoutis, Cotton-Top Tamarins and Mexican Beaded Lizards also haven't been added into either inventories but they are currently at the zoo now.
    • Kune-Kune Pigs are no longer kept at the zoo unfortunately as the two elderly ones had passed away at sometime during 2015 I think (Since the Micro pigs had been moved into their paddock by then).
If anyone here has got an account on Zootierliste, I hope you get this message across and fix these errors. Thank you ;)

Oh, and I almost forgot! Nile Monitors are still at the zoo inside the Reptile House and they have not been put back into the Current Inventory either.

    Four Asiatic short-clawed otters born.
The three older siblings, born two years ago, will relocate to another collection in the next few weeks. Baby otters! - Dudley Zoological Gardens

With regards to the confusion with the Tigers vs Bears vs Chimps thing; all 3 options are in the pipeline. The voting, which continues until the end of the year, is just to decide which one happens first.

“The three projects put forward for the vote are part of our long term development plan..."

“We wanted to give those visitors who support us through donations an extra say in the timings of our work..."

“Visitors have until the end of the year to vote for their favourite plan and we’ll focus on the winning project next year, although if we’ve got enough funds available we’ll move on to the other projects too.”

The problem is Dudley Council love the Publicity of doing things and getting it in the media but when push comes to shove they suddenly have no money or can't be assed to do the right thing look at Himley Hall's (Owl garden) waited months for planning permission which could have been granted months before.
They promise new things for all other aspects of the area and in the end when the media have gone quiet they back out because they say they have no funding, yet spend it on things no one want (but I won't get into that).

A nice little article on the Dudley website talking about Inca:

Treating Inca - Dudley Zoological Gardens

Nothing particularly new nor earth-shattering, but it does confirm she is still alive and kicking.

I agree a nice article and refreshing to see that an elderly animal like Inca is being given lots of tlc in her old age. They have made a great deal of effort with her enclosure too.

The last of her kind in the UK, I wonder if they will ever return to the UK in the future, not at Dudley I don't suppose, but elsewhere perhaps?
