    New in January 2010:
The zoo keeps now 1,1 echidnas, both came from Rotterdamzoo.
They live together with Timboyok-treekangaroos and kookaburras.

Timboyok-Treekangaroos ? What's that ? As far as I know, Duisburg has kept Matschie-treekangaroos, but lost them in 2008.

Never heared that name for Goodfellow-Treekangaroos before, but Its good, Duisburg got again Treekangaroos. I hope, they will get a not related male to the female, but this is very hard in europe.

    There was?

Duisburg got 0.1 goodfellows tree kangaroo in 2009, she came from Walsrode who stopped keeping them. Walsrode's male is keeping the lone female at Dortmund company...

As far as I know, two animals were imported for Krefeld and Dortmund. Frankfurt isn't breeding the species since many years. It would be worth an attempt, to mate him with the female at Duisburg. But I don't know, how close he is related to this female.

    Fossa?

I visited the Duisburg Zoo yesterday. I must say I loved it, being a change from the Dutch Zoo's I regularly visit. I've seen lots of species I haven't seen before. The Amazon Dolphin, Koala exhibit and Spectacle Bear enclosure were my favorites of the day! I was just wondering what is going on with the Fossa exhibit? I was looking forward to this as well, but it was empty and disassembled at some points. Are the Fossa's gone for good? Or are they just renovating? As Duisburg was my first German Zoo visited, I must say I was very impressed and am interested in visiting more of them around this area!

I visited Duisburg yesterday, the Fossa exhibit seems to be undergoing some renovation work - but we saw them out and about in part of their exhibit so they are still there.
I was also really impressed with the zoo, and it was a dream come true to see the koalas (my favourite animal!) I have some wonderful photos and can't wait to go back soon!

White Rhino bull, Kifaru (B 02/2000 at CERZA) traveled from Augsburg to Duisburg yesterday. Augsburg will get a replacement male from the bachelor group at Kerkrade during August if all goes to plan

At almost 20 years of age - which made her the oldest Koala in Europe ! - Koala-female Kangulandai has put asleep. She was the first Koala which was born and raised succesfully in Europe ( 1995 ). During her life she had 8 young herself.

A new Chinese giant salamander enclosure opened in Duisburg zoo. At a cost of Euro 150.000 (!) visitors can see the 2 animals through an 8 meter long window in the Aquarium of the zoo.
