Shame about the new bird aviaries, one wished these would be better accomodation for the birds on show. Is the bat roost you meant the island area (which was closed off last year when I was there unfortunately).
I think the small aviaries may (hopefully) be a temporary measure while the main aviaries on Bird Island are off-show for renovations. The domestic birds (budgies, lovebirds and doves) were quite relaxed, the other birds not so much. LaughingDove has a photo of one of them in the gallery from his visit. Bird Island will still be closed until well into the year. The bat roost is next to the two-storey hornbill aviaries at the very south end of the zoo, next to the lake.
