Any idea if they are getting purebred subspecific chimpanzees?
BTW: most of the current Dvur individuals should be Paniscus troglodytes troglodytes, the 2nd subspecies for which an EEP is in operation and under development.

I'm going to Dvur Kralove next week, will stay at Hotel Safari. The zoo closes at 5pm, how long are hotel guests allowed to stay at the zoo? And, except of my beloved rhinos (and elephants), which animals and enclosures should I not miss?

In the summer, visitors can wander the zoo till it's dark (and even then no one seems too bothered if you stay out longer).

I guess that at this time of year the safari part of the zoo will be closed, so you will have to content yourself with the more conventional zoo area - which is great. The mammals are all fairly obvious, and hard to miss (some of the carnivore cages may have different residents in the evening, possibly); some excellent birds in the tropical house and walk-through aviary (if they're open); also, the reptile collection is worth some time being spent on it. It's a great zoo!

I had a great time at the zoo, will go back again as soon as possible. I was so happy that I spotted a total of 11 rhinos, also both old boys "Isis" (black rhino, 40 years old) and "Natal" (white rhino, 46 years old). Hotel Safari and Restaurant Lemur are great, the free entrance to the zoo is really fantastic. A very special and surprising experience was a bush baby in one of the huts of the African village. That was really cuteness overload. And, "Kraken" is huge, so huge, I've never seen such a large crocodile before. :)

New projects announced for this year: Reconstuction of restaurant "Lemur" which will include a new congress hall and small brewery :) New indoor enclousure for giraffes (open in this Autumn). Reconstruction of pavilon "world of the birds" The entrance area of this pavilon will be rebuild for Madagascar habitat (fossa, common tenrec and Madagascas birds). New breeding centre for cheetah and at the end of the year will begin reconstruction of pavilon of carnivores - it will be focused mainly to outsie enclousure. And hoping for the arrival of okapi female.

May I ak for some help to identify these black rhinos: who is the mum with her youngster? First I thought it might be Jola with her baby girl but the little one seems to be too big for a 4 months old rhino and I'm not sure if it's a girl. The two boys born in 2016 are about 7-8 months old, maybe it's Eva or Jasmine with her baby boy. And the single male rhino seemed to be a younger one, full of energie. Who is it? Thanks in advance! :)

    That's mama with her calf:

I think that cow with calf is Eva. But I´m unsure about the bull.

Thanks a lot, Jana! Meanwhile I'm not sure it's a bull as I can't see on any of the photos of this rhino that it's a boy for sure. Sorry for the confusion ...

Zoo Dvur will remove the horns on all 21 rhinos they hold (this includes rhinos at the Bandia reserve in Senegal BTW).

Found a website with two very old videos of dvur kralove from 1957 and 1958. Also 1956 pictures of Prague zoo.

According to a facebook post white rhino Natal passed away last week. When exactly? I can't find any further details on that on the zoo's website nor on their Facebook page. Natal was one of the oldest male white rhinos in European zoos.
