Probably, our Czech forumsters can respond more accurately. But from what I read they have been trying to update their protected contact procedures and indoor facilities and sliding/separation facilities outdoor this year. Not exactly up-to-date how far they have moved on this. Given the fact the elephant planning was for 2020, I assume they have been hard at work trying to address any deficiencies and optimising their indoor and outdoor exhibit areas.

Don't think so, the long term plan is actually to enlarge the safari and make a section for them there

Okay, then I must have misinterpreted what they wrote in the annual report of late.

New white rhino male, 2 honey badgers, and 2 slender-snouted crocodiles were due to arrive, but these transports had to be postponed due to the current situation on borders.

Zoo also had to cancel some transports for other zoos, naming 2 Indian rhinos as an example (those that were supposed to go to Szeged I assume)

I know but I meant that in a way that Dvůr is often doing transports for other zoos who are less experienced/not equipped for doing such big transport themselves

Why do they want a new male when they have Pamir? Their females are old for breeding except Gaya. And they still have to wait for her to have a baby. (probably earliest 2022)

The bull has one offspring born 2016 only. He was imported in late 2015 and has been at the facility for the last 4+ years. Both older females Jessica and Temba have previously calved, so their is a good chance they would re-breed (even though both last births are some time out).

Given the tons of experience in rhino husbandry and breeding at Dvur Kralove Zoo, they sure know what they are doing. Given that the bull has not sired any offspring (allthough he is a proven candidate) and the time lapse seems reasonable to acquire another bull. Nothing wrong in that, also given the competitor bull concept.

But Pamir mated with them. I rather think that the time delay is too long and the they will not have babys. But I don't mind if they want another bull. They probably want to create a large herd like black rhinoceros.

Several issues here: Bull Pamir has not had the best record with breeding while at Pairi Daizi. He only sired just the 1 calf up to when he left in 2015 (where his successor has now produced 2 offspring after only being at PD for 2,5 years may give impetus to the fact he just might not be the best breeding "material". He is mature and now 12+ years old and not having been able to breed successfully for 4 years does not exactly reflect greatly on the current bull.

Now, I - and surely the Rhino Team at Dvur - know full well some of the cows are not the youngest anymore, hence given the lack of success with him and the likelihood that only a good proven bull will do the job properly bringing in another bull makes sense and is essential for any future breeding success (irrespective if bull Pamir might still sire a calf or not when a new bull is in).

DK do well to further building up herd numbers and bringing in some more younger females. Something the Dvur Team has been doing of late! Cow Jabulani (b. 2002) arrived in 2018 and needs to be bred successfully now (another reason they require a seasoned bull, and not a newbie), the young cow Gaya is just about to mature has the best chances for breeding.

About the elephants coming in, it should be either 1 or 2 females arriving.

The new white rhino male arriving should be Kusini from Safari Park Hodenhagen, mostly known for being very playful

The zoo announced their attendace for month July. Number of sold tickets grew up 20% y/y. It isn´t enough to compensate all losses of spring closure, but if weather helps a little during rest of summer, total loss of revenue in 2020 should stay manageable.

A new hippo was born, is 6 days old now.

Will be interesting if they will be able to find a new home for their two male hippo offspring.

Dvur doesn´t have spider tortoises. However, they have a group of 10 Radiated tortoises, they came from Plzen zoo last summer and recently had their first baby hatched. The adults were actualy confiscated as small babies at Prague airport circa 20 years ago, if I remember.
