The aviary next to flamingos will be built for pelicans. The zoo wants them to build nests up in trees so it should be pretty high (and there will be other bird species mixed in). Visitors will see it from the same covered walk-through viewing corridor like flamingos, without net between them and birds. BTW, at the map, you can also see the existing two-storey off-show bird breeding house (end of road behind pengins). This house will stay closed for visitors, but in future, a row of bird aviaries will be built around it and those will be visible.
The rhino calf has been renamed with the Ukrainian spelling of Kyiv: Czech zoo names baby endangered rhino Kyiv
I don't think so, it's just a translation issue. On Facebook the safari park posted yesterday: "[...]Kyjev dobře prospívá, přibírá asi kilo denně.[...]", so it's still "Kyjev". According to Google, the Ukrainian spelling would be "Kyjiw", in English "Kyiv" (as in the article) or "Kiev", in German "Kiew". And the Czech spelling is "Kyjev".
Recently the zoo received 3 young Slender-snouted crocodiles (Mecistops cataphractus), they are currently kept behind the scenes. At the moment Dvůr Králové only has 1 adult female and 3 juveniles. Does someone know where they got the 3 slender-snouted crocodiles from? Source: Instagram of Zoo Dvůr Králové (07/04/2022) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcDB2kLKZLq/
A crowned lapwing (Vanellus coronatus) chick has hatched and is now visible for visitors in the bird baby room of the bird house.
Recently young South African cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) were send to Parc de l´Auxois. Source: Instagram of Zoo Dvůr Králové (27/04/2022) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc2U1b4KePE/
African civet pair has another litter of cubs (you can see them near Persian leopards, close to the main zoo entrance). Hippos moved into their summer exhibit in safari areal. The youngest animal in the group is female Manon born 5.Dec 2021 to her mother Mona. A group of black-winged lovebirds (Agapornis taranta) is now free-flying in the bird house (and destroying its vegetation pretty hard).
This is the second breeding of this pair ( last year Dvur Králové had the Czech first-breeding of the species ) and this years litter contains 4 young.
New, "summer map" is out, on website, already with penguin exhibit (guess that its opening is planning for this year, probably during main season?)
Southwest Africa part in the safari park will be further expanded with new exhibits and species such as enclosures for hyenas, mountain zebras (probably Hartmann's mountain zebra) and other ungulates. Next year it is planned the exhibit for hyenas and an aviary for birds of prey. The director of the Safari park also mentioned that he would like to get aardwolfs and brown hyenas from south Africa.
Greater flamingo flock has settled well in their new aviary. 18 pairs have laid eggs during May and first chick hatched in June. Also other bird species kept there like spoonbills, ibises and ducks are nesting. Log in or sign up to view I think we can expect 12 chicks or more. Majority of the flock is full-flighted and eggs have good fertility rate. Only birds older than 15 years are pinioned. The zoo moved away from keeping flamingos in open-top exhibit after serious outbreak of bird flu in winter 2006/07 that spooked all zoos in our country. Going through older news, those 5 immature flamingos that surfaced in Zoo Dvorec during this winter came from Dvur. Dvorec is a small private roadside type of a zoo near Austrian border. And the first season of the griffon vulture flock produced only infertile eggs.
Recently a male Ross's turaco (Tauraco rossae) arrived to accompany the already present female. Source: Instagram of Dvůr Králové (13/06/2022) Login • Instagram
