Yes they take your photo at the booth when signing up for it as with any other zoo. But you can use it for Highland Wildlife Park as well which is good.
Thanks @Zooreviewsuk, that's what I thought. I was hoping to become a member to get free entry to the 10+ zoos on the affiliation programme, but live too far away to visit. I'll have to go for Colchester Zoo instead
Well bugger me with a rough end of a pineapple ! I had no idea about that and I've paid for entry into around 3 of those places since I got membership too !
I think it's an amazingly generous benefit of membership and have always wondered if it is really beneficial to those taking part. Saying that, I'm sure a lot of members are either not aware of it or maybe only visit two or three of the others.
When I visited the UK I got that membership through Chester and it saved me a decent amount of money. ~Thylo
From my research, RZSS offer the most free zoo entries, with Colchester a close 2nd (same as RSZZ exept no Fota). Rotterdams doesn't include as many UK zoos but includes free entry to Antwerp and Planckendael among others. Well worth it for zoo enthusiasts!
You don't need to get your picture taken at the zoo for a membership card, they will post you the card out and then you affix a passport size photo to it
Bugger! Chester do not list HWP on their website for free entry (although Edinburgh is there) and I didn't bother asking when I visited in the summer. However, HWP have confirmed that Chester members are entitled to a free entry.
This winter will see the introduction of the Rockhopper Railroad (Hilltop Safari replacement). The Massey Ferguson tractor based train will be able to take 24 passengers at a time from Meerkat Plaza to the top of the zoo. It will do 5 round trips per day. Bertus the Indian Rhino will be leaving shortly (or may have already left) to go to a zoo in Asia. A new male will be arriving after Christmas thus continuing Edinburgh's position as a holding facility for young males.
I do hope for a zoo in India! But the most likely candidate will be Singapore Zoo Other than that only a very few fewJapanese zoos.
Update on Bertus the Indian Rhino leaving: "We don't have an exact date yet but we expect that Bertus will go off to join the European breeding programme in the first few months of next year. This will allow new rhinos to join us later in 2018."
It would be very interesting if the EEP travel would be an Asian destination and an expansion of the European program to enable new bloodlines to enter back in (over time). This if and lo-and-behold the suggested Asian door opening is true.
L'hoest monkeys are in the old Barbary macaque exhibit. Hopefully this marks the end the Monkey house
