This is absolutely not true. Glasgow Zoo began breeding binturongs in the early 1970s and they bred multiple times there.
And I thought the Scotsman's April Fool was the story about scheduled flights between Edinburgh and Glasgow beginning later this month...

I know there's still loads too see but loads of empty enclosures today. Qualas only open for a few hours lions off show need quiet time never heard of a shy lion.
When I visited last July, the male seemed quite edgy and threw himself at the window a couple of times. Do they have a breeding pair?
The koala enclosure closure (that was a bit of a mouthful) will almost definitely be related to stress reduction for them following the recent death of Yabbra. When I was there as a volunteer two years ago around the time that Yooranah died a similar system was in place. He had been losing a lot of weight prior to his death and keepers were concerned that this may have been due to stress caused by visitors making noise, banging on the glass and taking flash photographs inside the koala house, so they only kept the enclosure open to visitors at times when it could be staffed and these behaviours challenged. They had the male Jay and the female Roberta when I was there last (February). I haven’t heard of any changes since that time.
Visited today in the glorious sunshine and on a bank holiday weekend...if your not Scottish you will have no idea how rare a combination that is! The zoo was the busiest I have seen it in years which is very encouraging. I think we managed to see every species today, almost all of the animals were active in the sunshine which was a huge bonus. The one species we didn't see were the Asiatic Lions. All paths surrounding them were closed due to "breeding season". This time Tiger Tracks was also closed and the male Sumatran Tiger moved to the lower exhibit which previously housed the female. They are giving the lions as much space as possible from the public, I can only assume they have had cubs and the zoo are trying to ensure the female doesn't become stressed and kill them again. The building work has started on the new outdoor walk through aviary at Brilliant Birds, it looks like it will be a good size. Inside Brilliant Birds there is a sign advising the Queen Leaf Cutter Ant has died, the colony is being allowed to live out their lives as they would in the wild, they are dying off without their Queen. It will be interesting to see whether the zoo replace the colony, they have been their since 2009 and I am always fascinated by them. The Gibbons are still in the Monkey House, it doesn't look like much has been done to their enclosure so I'm not sure when they will be moving back. The Penguins are all on their nests, including the Rock-hoppers so hopefully their will be many chicks again this year. Bertus the Indian Rhino is still in the zoo, no idea when his move will be now, if he ends up moving at all.
