A male red panda kit has been born at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo and had his first health check with head vet Simon Girling and keeper Leanne Deacon.

The team at People’s Postcode Lottery, whose players funded the wildlife conservation charity’s red panda enclosure in 2017, named the kit Ruaridh meaning red-haired king.

Was at the zoo on Thursday and saw that happening, being filmed by a TV crew, presumably for a TV series as there were a lot of signs about the zoo.

The zebra was giving the trailer a good kicking

There is at least one Swift Parrot in Brilliant Birds now, I was able to grab a quick picture on my phone just to confirm.

More than 70 organisations, including RZSS and project partners, contributed to this year’s report assessing the current situation for native biodiversity, and revealed a concerning reality for Scotland’s wildlife. Of the species studied in Scotland, 49% show a decline, with one in nine species, including the Scottish wildcat threatened with extinction:

This makes me wonder how invested in conservation and animals she really was. But any change is welcome if it starts to pull the zoo out of stagnation

She has been with Edinburgh Zoo and sister location 6 years 9 months in various senior positions. Her career prior in zoo industry was MD with Chester in 2010 somewhere.

Everything before that was very much with Historic Scotland and Meadowbank in the leisure industry.

Saw on a keeper group on Facebook that 0.1 White-rumped shama arrived last month. Red-whiskered bulbul have also arrived but I don't know when, from where or how many. Will be to go and find out
