I'm just hoping the SSP doesn't create a scenario where a majority of US African births are sired by Mabu. I think it would be in everyone's best interest to not use him for AI, at least not at other zoos other than SDWAP.

SDWAP will be receiving Lowry Park's bull elephant in the near future.

Really! Thats awesome, but whats going to happen to Mabu? If he sticks around, I can't see him liking this plan?!?

The Lowry Park male is named Mshoni or something along those lines isn't he. I hope that he impregnates there female before he leaves

Yeah that is great! It may start breeding at lowry Park with the 3 females. Do you have any idea when that will happen?

Maybe Mabu will go to lowry Park as they could do with an experienced breeding bull because Msholo hasn't been successful yet with the 3 females which are all of breeding age and Ellie who had a male calf in 2005 (through AI). I hope this happens to be honest!

However one reason Msholo hasn't bred yet could be that he is not dominant enough and sending him to SDWAP may not work because they have a larger herd (6 adult females compared to 3) And San diego will be more established as they're a beeding family group so may not be impressed with him. :) Hope im wrong though!!

Just got back from Elephant Database and I read that Lowry Park's remaining bull "Msholo" is now at SDWAP! He was moved here on Oct 3rd to start a second breeding group

This is just from Elephant Database, so it could just be false information. However, okapikpr stated that SDWAP was due to recieve Msholo so it is most likely true

Hoping he does as well as Mabu has

Hopefully they never combine them and only connect them. It always works better when there are a few smaller yards, than one massive one.

Of course that's what I meant and what they would likely do.

I agree it would be better to keep them seperate yeards but connect them so the herd can move around. But by the sounds of the articles they are planning on splitting the herd up. I really hope they do not do this permenatly. Does anyone have any more details?

According to one of the keepers, they are currently working on connecting the yards, should be done by the summer. Ndlula is due feb/mar, Swazi is due apr/may and Umoya is due may/jun. Busy spring... lets just hope they are all healthy!
