To all of us at this blog, here's something PETA lied about that I found: "In 2003, the San Diego Wild Animal Park captured 7 African elephants, a species designated as threatened, from their natural habitats in Swaziland. Experts, scientists, and researchers who study elephants in the wild strongly opposed the capture, stating, “Taking elephants from the wild is not only traumatic for them, it is also detrimental to their health. ... [W]e believe the time has come to consider them as sentient beings and not as so much money on the hoof to be captured and sold and displayed for our own use.”"(14) First of all, they weren't captured. Secondly, you mother******* PETA ******* know what would happen to the elephants if the wild animal park didn't take them? We all know the answer to that, right guys?
@ Joshgrossglaza: One of the AR groups that opposed the move of the elephants to US zoos had found a place for them in Africa where they could have lived in semi-wild conditions. By the way, how did they end up in captivity after years of living in the wild if they weren`t captured?
SADC/Southern African nations with large elephant populations routinely cull above carrying capacity elephant populations.
