I have been to Borås zoo in Sweden where they have their african elephants together with zebra, giraffe, ostrich, eland, blesbok, african buffalo and guineafowl. But I don´t think i have even been to another zoo where the elephants have shared enclosure with other species. Do any of you know about other zoo where the elephants share their enclosure with other species? Both in regards to african elephant and asian elephant.
Dallas Zoo (Texas, USA) "Giants of the Savanna" elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas ,ostriches, guinea fowl http://www.zoochat.com/22/giants-savannah-review-197994/
African elephants with large group of Hamadryas baboons at Safaripark Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands.
@Zooplantman: it's now kudu instead of impala at Dallas. The Henry Doorly Zoo (Omaha) plans to mix their elephants with zebra and impala, in the future.
Some others I've seen are: Peaugres (France) - African elephants with warthogs. Olmense Zoo (Belgium) - Antelope species have access to the paddock of two female African elephants. Pairi Daiza (Belgium) - African elephants with crowned cranes. I've read that they wanted to mix them with antelopes and zebras too, but that hasn't happened yet.
thought this might be interesting, relative to the discussion: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154313353924789&set=pcb.10153537865596709&type=3&theater
Birmingham Zoo (AL) has the infrastructure in place. The white rhino trio has even been in the main yard. I just don't know if its ever been at the same time the 3 elephant bulls have. At some indeterminate point in the future, infrastructure is in place so the following can share the main exhibit space at least theoretically. 3 Bull elephants, 5 Giraffe, 3 White rhino, 1 hippo, 4 Ostrich, 7 Zebra, and 2 warthogs.
