So I thought I'd start a new thread for Exmoor Zoo this year.

Three female Cheetahs have arrived from Boras Zoo in Sweden, a mother and her two daughters. Amber and Kasi were exchanged with them. Exmoor Zoo plan to hold the two daughters until they are old enough to breed. So a slight change from their original plan to go out of Cheetahs all together when Dave died.

The two aviaries where the old encounter zone was are complete, holding Grey Winged Trumpeter Bird and Vulturine Gunieafowl.

The entrance is being extended. Might just be for more cover though. Have to see.

The enclosure hopefully for the Wolverines is not quite finished. But hopefully that enclosure should be complete and occupied by Summer, fingers crossed.

Does anyone know of any plans to get a new Male cheetah ? If they hope to breed with these new females, I hope that they dont intend to use the genetically impaired male 'Dave'.

It'll be hard for them to breed Dave - He died back in October. They plan to only hold Cheetahs, they don't have the facility to breed them and they have no intention of doing so. But In the future the two young females may leave to breed elsewhere. There mother is no longer required for breeding and will probably stay at Exmoor until she passes away.

Ah didn't realise 'Dave' had passed, thats a shame. Good to hear that it sounds like Exmoor has thought through its future with cheetahs, and has come to a sensible decision. Facilities that hold and don't breed are just as important as zoos with active breeding programs. I wish Exmoor every luck with it's 3 new cheetahs.

Visited today. The Golden Cat has left the collection to some Zoo in Germany (forgot its name). There's a Hornbill in the Golden Cats enclosure at present. Possibility of getting a Bobcat in the future... None in the UK as of present according to Zootierliste so could be interesting if they do. Penguins, under review... They've been offered some but are still thinking on wherever to hold them again or not. Wolverine enclosure still not complete. They are currently revamping the café and entrance in time for summer, which has put some other projects on hold.

Most likely Wuppertal, Muntser or Heidelberg (who already hold them)

Visited today. ENjoyed it, took lots of photos, but am sure the majority are rubbish :)

However, on talking to a member of staff, I was disappointed to learn that they were eager for the Leopards to breed for financial reasons, although they acknowledge age is againnst them. This subject may have arisen here before, but I thought zoos were no longer mixing continents/sub species of cats etc.

One of the African Wild Dogs died a few months back from a heart attack. The otter enclosure is about to be refurbished to hold Bush dogs hopefully by Summer. Wolverine enclosure is still unfinished, doesn't seem to of been touched in months now.
