A French family get out of their car (twice!) to photograph cheetahs at Beekse Bergen safari park in the Nederland's... Family chased by CHEETAHS after getting out of car in safari park
That went pretty viral in the Netherlands. Its pretty much people like this why zoos have bad reputations, and ruin zoos for others.
Allmost accident at Beekse Bergen. A family left their car to take a closer look at the Cheetah-drive-through ! Article ( in Dutch ) with video : Gezin met kind stapt uit auto in Beekse Bergen en wordt beslopen door jachtluipaarden [VIDEO]

I wish the media would concentrate on content and noteworthy zoo news and make some hullabaloo instead of focussing in on sensationalist stories and the utter stupidity of some of the zoo going public. Simply ….
I saw this on YouTube yesterday. I guess the only positive thing to say is lucky they were only cheetahs; if those were leopards, this would be a different story.
Maybe in an ideal world, let me know when you find it Personally, I think there's an argument for stories like this -it doesn't hurt people/politicians to be reminded how stupid some of us can be.
Agreed as for argument, but it would be nice if media would report on zoos, their ex-situ conservation, their conservation support and generally the important zoo events - breeding tuataras overseas a world first et cetera - for a change.
I understand what you're saying but to be fair, in the UK at least, there's a fair amount of positive zoo shows and news stories. It seems like there's at least one zoo show on every week and there's often news (filler) stories of endangered animals being born at this zoo or that. Not perfect (and often mega-fauna biased) but overall positive.
I'm happy at least that the zoo is not blamed for this accident. However, I am afraid that in due time visitors may not be allowed to drive through the cheetah enclosure anymore. Which is the reason visitors aren't allowed to drive around the lion enclosure, for example.
For anyone that doesn't want to visit the Mail website, the footage is on the BBC news page here: Cheetahs chase family at safari park
And with a small child, too. You'd think they would realize why there's so many signs saying to stay in your car and keep windows up, and why no one else is parking and getting out...
