Interesting to see where they get them from. Blackpool,Twycross and Howletts/Port Lympne all have breeding groups from which they may have sourced their individuals without going outside the UK.
Fife Zoo have rescued a group of 6 Common Marmosets from a house in Aberdeenshire which will soon be on show: Security Check Required
What is actually on display? Nothing on the webpages so I have emailed them to see if they have a list. If they send one and no one else posts I will post here. I could not find them on ZTL either.
Its former incarnation is on there, listed as Inverness. But like yourself, I can't find any trace of it in its current form. I know there wasn't much left when it originally closed its doors, maybe some a wallaby or two, a couple of small monkeys.
10.0 Ring-tailed lemurs have arrived from Yorkshire Wildlife Park and will be on display in a new Lemur Walkthrough in early 2020: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=481753249210231
Firefighters are tackling a blaze which broke out in the roof space of a building at Fife Zoo. All staff and animals are safe: Firefighters tackle blaze at zoo
Fife Zoo have got a Big Hairy Armadillo and he is taking immediate residence in their Armadillo House. I am not sure what gender it is, but I think it may be a male.
Another fire has broken out at Fife zoo today. Four fire engines are currently on scene after the alarm was raised at around 12:30pm this afternoon. Second fire in less than a year I hope all animals and staff are safe
"DEAR VISITORS AND SUPPORTERS It has been a difficult day at the zoo but everyone (people & animals) is safe. As you may have heard in the news a fire broke out in our hay barn today. The causes of this fire are being investigated. The zoo facilities, animal enclosures and visitor areas were unaffected. Once again we thank you for all the love and support you have shown us in these difficult times The community in Fife has given us so much and we want to continue developing so that we can give all that love back to you. The zoo will be back open at 10am tomorrow and we hope you can join us in the endeavour of continuing building the best little zoo in Scotland. Much love from all Fife Zoo’s staff and animals." I'm not sure where they came from but the female is called "Nut" and the male is called "Dusty". This is the first time both have bred, if any of that might help shed some light on where they are from?
That's a very nice turaco species. Good to see some more birds as that side of the zoo was certainly lacking
Ring-tailed exhibit opening next weekend: Fife Zoo opening new endangered lemur walk-through enclosure The walk-through exhibit will feature a troop of 10 ring-tailed lemurs — an endangered species unique to Madagascar. The troop’s new home is a large custom enclosure with a habitat built to suit their needs. Zoo owners hope it gives visitors a “truly immersive” experience. The £25,000 project has taken nearly two years to create. It features a bespoke, temperature-controlled lemur house as well as areas of long grasses, trees, rocky areas and climbing structures to promote their natural behaviours. Amazing exhibit, but only one species of lemur??? A A
Red fody have also recently arrived. Plenty of walkthroughs out there with only Ring-tailed lemur. An EEP species that is tried & tested (and very popular), and who knows what species they might source in the future?
Well to be completely honest, I’m glad to see that a zoo in my local area is drastically improving considering they’ve took over from a bit shady owner, endured 2 separate fires (no animals harmed in both). And now the bird collection is sizing up nicely with a mention of red fodies and schalow’s turacos arriving, along with DeBrazza’s monkeys having offspring and the lemurs getting a nice update. I will definitely visit in the further future, but it is still a long drive (45 mins to a hour). Also it’s near the college which I will study animal care next year. What an exciting addition to a improving area
