Hi everyone, I've been reading ZooChat already for more than a year but never found the courage to go the next step and register in order to write posts myself. I've been a zoo-fan for almost 40 years now (since Kindergarten times) and since then have visited more than 50 Zoos world wide with Wilhelma Stuttgart being my childhood hometown Zoo (visited maybe 500 times or more so far - mainly in the late 80s and early 90s...) In the last 18 months I've visited the following Zoos: Heidelberg (7x) Wilhelma Stuttgart (5x) Pairi Daiza (4x) Zoo Landau (2x) Zoo Frankfurt (2x) Zoo Karlsruhe (2x) Zoo Berlin Tierpark Berlin Opelzoo Kronberg San Diego Zoo San Diego Safari Park Sea World San Diego Monterey Bay Aquarium San Francisco Zoo Despite visiting zoos I also like traveling the world to watch animals in their natural habitats very much. Both by doing game drives and scuba diving. So far I've been several times to Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Kenia, Tansania), Australia, South East Asia, Mexico and the US... As photography is a big Hobby of mine I'm also intending to post photos from my Zoo visitis from time to time. I'm looking forward to now being an active part of this great zoo community.
Welcome! It’s so fun posting on here! It sounds amazing going to all those game reserves, did you see any animals not commonly seen in zoos? (Grysbok, bushbuck etc)
Yes - I've seen several animals - especially in Africa - that I at least have not often seen in Zoos (challenge for me now is to find the right english term for them...): Bushbuck Reedbuck Steenbuck Dik-Dik Tobi Hartebeest White-tailed gnu (I believe the brindled gnu is more common in Zoos - however I've also seen it) Hartmann's mountain Zebra Yellow baboon Chacma baboon Genet Aardvark Caracal ... From the recent USA trip I especially recall the pronghorn which we saw at and around Bryce Canyon NP.
Welcome I look forward to any memories and photographs you can share of the collections you cite - I suspect you've seen many species to make people a bit jealous!
