Inspired by others, I decided to try my hand at making a species list of the most recent facility I visited.

Flamingo Gardens is a small tourist attraction in Davie, FL. It is equal part botanical garden (some native and non-native species) and animal sanctuary (mostly natives but also some small exotics, mainly parrots).

    Front section
Right after the entrance/gift shop you will have some aviary cages. If you make a right, you will see parrot enclosure 1-3, along with some non-native plant species. A left leads to parrot enclosure 4 and most of the rest of the place. Note: parrot enclosure 1-4 are just names I made up to differentiate them.

They have more than I thought, especially rarer species!

Added Blue Peafowl. Many are free-ranging including a hen with recently hatched chicks.

Is there any risk of interbreeding between the greater and American flamingoes?

Funny you mention that because the American Flamingoes I believe are currently fenced off within the pool due to breeding. At least, there was a sign saying they are breeding. There are also only 1 or 2 greaters left at the moment, from what I was able to see.

I didn't realize they had so many native bird species!

Regarding this, Flamingo Gardens does not actually keep peafowl. The birds you saw roaming around the zoo are actually wild animals (the species is introduced in Florida).

On my return trip here, the species were the same, but saw some more.

    1. There are also Chilean Flamingos in the flamingo pool. More Greaters as well. They must have been off-exhibit when I went last time.

    2. Turtle pool that was closed off was re-opened and the species held is less interesting; just Red-eared and Yellow-bellied Sliders.

    3. Severe Macaws are still signed but off-exhibit. However, the bts holdings are sometimes viewable if gate is open and I saw them.

    4. There is another BOP present bts that I saw. I believe it is an Osprey. Not sure if it will eventually be put on-exhibit or will be released.
