At hippo talk today they said their looking for a new home for Ernie and then hopefully hoover will come up from Whipsnade too be friends with godzilla. Shame the house is too small lake must be big enough for more.

That isn't good news for Whipsnade, unless they are getting a new male!

Why would you think hoover will move from Whipsnade

I would expect them to do a swap 2-way or 3-way. As there is an EEP (former ESB) managed by Zoo Ostrava I expect this move to be on the cards and in full agreement with the studbook keeper (and keepers would not announce this during a talk when the move is only a provisional one).

After I heard this I had a chat with a keeper about the future of Whipsnades hippos, apparently there had been talk of Hoover going to West Midlands which had since died down, but then bringing in a new female to pair with Hodor but it seemed all very speculative.

Earlier in this thread it was suggested that Whipsnade's male hippopotamus "Hoover" may be transferred to Flamingo Land.

If you do get the opportunity to confirm plans for Flamingo Land's hippos that would be much appreciated please. Thanks in advance.

    Hope symposium is a successs.

Do they still have 2 herds of giraffe and how many in total do they have now?

Does anyone know if a giraffe from Longleat is still there? Think she was called Annie/Anna?

The Giraffe was called Amber. As of September 2017 she was still alive. No idea if this is still the case. Yes, they have both a breeding herd and a separate (none breeding) group of hybrid females

Yes, saw her last week, still alive and well by the looks of it,. She lives in the hybrid herd (4 of them) with the zebra and ostrich.

AFAIK they hold 11 or 12 in total split between 2 houses:
The hybrid herd is made up of 3 females and 1 male (who I assume is neutered as he has been kept with his mother and breeding age females since he was born):
    Amber (F, 18), Charlotte (F, 16), Zara (F, 16) and Shingo (M, 9)
As for the breeding herd of Rothschilds there is 1 mature male, 2 breeding females and several of their calves (a third breeding female, Joyce, arrived with the others but died as a result of complications during pregnancy):
    Adults: George (M, 12), Lizzie (F, 10), Mylene (F, 10)
There should be six of their calves but I am not sure on names
Pixie, Sophie, Mahiri, Tisa and two others.
