A Florida inmate who had earned the privilege of working at a petting zoo run by a sheriff was arrested for feeding iguanas to the petting zoo's alligator. Iguanas are invasive in Florida, right? If so this is doing more good than harm! Will other be arrested for abusing invasive species? Florida inmate charged with feeding pet iguanas to alligator at sheriff's zoo
They're invasive but the iguanas that were fed to the alligator were the zoo's property and longtime residents. Also throwing a live iguana to an alligator that is perfectly happy eating pre-killed meals is totally unnecessary. Even if the reason is that they are a "nuisance" there are plenty of other ways to manage the animal other than feeding them to another animal.
It's really no different from that incident when that Idaho teacher fed a live puppy to a snapping turtle.
