There is a Japanese e-zine called "doubutsu no kuni" (not to confuse with the manga) that I have wanted to share with this community even before making my account. While not all of the magazines include English translations I hope this e-zine can give you an insight about Japanese zoos (although the e-zine sometimes feature foreign zoos including the Berlin zoo and the Alpen zoo). link: http://www.doubutsu-no-kuni.net/?page_id=2 P.S. to zoom in you can just click on the pages.
P.S.S.: the magazine sometimes features former curator of Zoological-Botanical Garden Wilhelma Stuttgart, as General Curator at the Zoo-Aquarium Berlin and at least and not last as CEO of the Zoological Garden Berlin AG with its 3 institutions: Zoo Berlin, Zoo-Aquarium Berlin and Tierpark Berlin Jurgen Lange who has made a consulting agency with the author of the magazine.
I forgot to add that some of the magazine entries "continue" in the site as entries from certain keepers, which can give some insight with the animal care in Japan. Also, @beccasunbear I don't know if you checked the site or the magazines but I thought you might get interested with this http://www.doubutsu-no-kuni.net/?cat=64
Hello Possum Roach. I think you should rename this thread: "For people who have a yen or two for Japanese zoos"
Thank you! I did have a look, but as always with the Japanese language, I found it quite difficult to navigate. So this link is very helpful to me -many sun bear related articles all in one place! I will enjoy this!
I love the Japanese black bear! When I visited Ueno Zoo, I enjoyed their females Kuu and Uta very much!
Yes, but I always browse using my iPhone, and it can be hard to copy the text from links into the translator (such as those on the right hand side menu) without ending up clicking on them and finding myself directed elsewhere!
