Yes, iguanas were held back for the same reason

For those who don't know, Burgers Zoo have their own YouTube channel and they recently made a video about birds in the mangrove and mentioned some future plans

It was unusually large but I do believe it was a common European toad. What are some other pet species?

What is unusually large? Female toads can reach quite formidable sizes.

Looked it up, and they indeed grow larger than I thought. Certainly the biggest specimen I'd ever seen!

Can we perhaps get a similar guide for the Desert and Mangrove? I can draw out a map of the desert, the mangrove has an available map

The turkey vultures usually hang out on top of the mesa, and last time I visited I saw some Socorro doves in the rock cliffs above the cactus garden. I've actually never seen the quail and haven't been observant enough to see any of the other birds. I didn't add pictures for the Canyon aviary, as I don't know for sure which species are in here and I believe it changes

@Timmiegun Could you fill in the rest of the species?

    Sure

Gambel's Quail = Canyon, though i believe they have found a way to get in-and-out on the side towards the t-rex excavation

    Rose-bellied Bunting = OC
Lawrence's Goldfinch = not sure but I believe C and TP
Northern Cardinal = OC, O and near the bobcat
Turkey Vulture = Mesa, the airconditioning at the terrace and ontop of canyon
Socorro = Roadrunner enclosure a pair lasttime I checked, Canyon a pair, and I believe a few that hang near the bighorns
White-winged Dove = near the roof (supportbeams) near Bighorns
Mexican House finch = No clue
Yellow Grosbeak = Near lynx and C
    Ultramarine Brosbeak = no clue
Painted Bunting OC and O (sometimes near C
    Fatheaded Minnows = O

It really feels like the birds are avoiding the area near the pekari's. Maybe cause of the lack of green.
All information given is based on my own observations.

I thought the quails were completely free-roaming?

Give me a second to upload the Mangrove

They are but they seem to prefer the T-rex region :p and sometimes they are able to go to the canyon somehow. Do not ask me how xD

I'm guessing this is because they are ground-based birds, maybe it's easier for them to walk past the flaps

They will avoid the dark tunnels, so maybe a small hole or so in that side of the netting. (or they just had a few in the canyon temp. But maybe for the map just list them near T-rex and the open space between T-rex and the peccaries

It's a real shame (though understandable) that canyon is closed because of corona, otherwise I'd check

I'm going to do a re-draw of the Bush with an update of the new restaurant (purely from memory). @Timmiegun do you have some pictures of the new restaurant?

The Gambel's Quails are currently completely free-roaming, it is the Scaly Quails that have been confined to the canyon as far as I am aware (the Mexican House Finch are also only kept in the Canyon and if there are no surplus animals the same is true for the Socorro Doves). The Gambel's Quails do however often hang around the canyon area, but they can be seen throughout most of the hall.

Basically all birds in the Desert are most commonly seen in the areas with the highest densities of trees/shrubs, so basically the Mesquite trees opposite the "cactus garden", the shrubs opposite the T-rex and near the Roadrunners. The best way to look for any species is to peer in the shrubs, look at the feeder next to the Oasis and check the stream from the Bobcat enclosure into the Mesquite trees.

For the Mangrove it is the same, most birds use most of the hall and aren't confined to a single part. The feeding stations around the edges of the hall (D1,D2,G1) are particularly good as many species often hang out in the vicinity. With most birds being passerines, the easiest way to find them is in spring when the males are singing. For example last year the Indigo Bunting's favourite spot was above the right side of the "metal roof".

New free-roamer in the bush: Edward's pheasant (Lophorus hatinhensis). Not sure if it's been mentioned yet

The best way of seeing birds in tropical halls is waiting 20-30 min near every bird feeder rather than looking for them.

Could we get an updated version of this? I'm making some maps with all the birds and free-roamers on them and I believe some animals have since been added and removed
