Does anybody know whether the Zoo is breeding Vus'Musi and Miss Betts? Also are they trying to recieve a breeding age female?
Yes, African Elephants. Their bull is Vus'musi and their cow is Miss Betts. Also to answer your question, musi regularly breeds Betts. However both are still young and just now entering the ages at which captive Africans can potentially start breeding, and musi isn't very good at actually getting insertion yet. As per AZA guidelines they do need to acquire another animal, however I could not help you whatsoever in regards to which animal that may be (although if I had to guess, a cow from Disney could be a probable candidate).
This story says that aoudads are in the former sloth exhibit, which makes zero sense since the sloth exhibit is in their rain forest aviary. They must mean the sloth bear exhibit, which raises the question of what happened to the sloth bear?
Outplacement. The Little Rock Zoo has just received 2.0 sloth bears for their female. M Pabu from Tautphaus Zoo in Idaho Falls and M Sahaasa (well he is from ... Fresno Zoo per chance - see below). Here is a video explaining why the sloth bears are relocating to another zoo. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10155569652492894
Thanks Dina and Kifaru. That video is very informative, and good to see that Fresno is going to upgrade their bear and tiger exhibits.
The Komodo dragon is a 4/5-year old female hatched at Memphis (arrived from Jacksonville). It is planned to eventually pair her up with the already resident male. The Californian sea lion is a sea rescue and is now allowed to be part of the AZA program as a future mate for the Fresno females.
I usually don’t do other zoos than Oakland but since it’s nearby... The zoo has stayed on their instagram that one of their animals is pregnant. Unsure which one but my guess is a giraffe but since my knowledge of the zoo is limited to one visit last year, I’m not sure.
Oh well I never really seen those before so I just assumed it was just used for any animal (I’m a freshman in high school I’m sorry)
A white rhino calf is on its way next year and his or her big brother Rudo will leave to make room. Fresno Chaffee Zoo is sending off one of its white rhinos. Another is on the way
