Are there plans of building a new zoo, aquarium, or wildlife park from scratch anywhere in the world? If not, what location do you think is in need of such a facility?
There is constantly someone planning a new zoo in Las Vegas, but it's always scrapped before it is built.
A completely new park called Ecozonia, focused on predators, will open next february in the south of France, next to the frontier with Spain. I started a thread on this new park here : ECOZONIA - Terre de prédateurs Another park will open in the west part of France, called La Tanière - Zoorefuge, as soon as possible. It is a mix between a refuge/sanctuary and a zoo. It's a new park too. Thread there : La Tanière - Zoo Refuge
New zoo in Manchester, UK: Manchester Zoo plan takes a leap forward - in a new site next to M60 Manchester Zoo New zoo in Doha, Qatar: New Doha Zoo, Doha, Qatar Blooloop New zoo in Gujarat, India - supposed to be the world's largest: Reliance plans world's largest zoo, facility set to come up in Gujarat's Jamnagar. New safari park, Sharjah, UAE (around 40 minutes drive from Dubai) - part of the safari park has already been built "the largest safari project outside Africa": Sharjah Ruler approves safari park project New, unique "human zoo" in Guangdong, China where the humans are in hotels and the animals roam freely - the images looks almost otherwordly: Meet the man building a human zoo in China New aquarium in Abu Dhabi: https://www.arabianbusiness.com/con...est-aquarium-to-open-in-the-uae-in-early-2021
Regarding the plans for the "world's largest zoo" in Gujarat, India, by "Reliance Industries Limited" I have to say that I feel deeply cynical. I think it would be far better to spend some of the no doubt prodigious amounts of money that will invariably be spent on its construction on translocating some of the Asiatic lions of the Gir forest to Madhya Pradesh. I understand that the decision to translocate ultimately rests with the Gujarati government but I'm sure that "Reliance Industries Limited" could no doubt play a part in convincing them.
I love this. As someone interested in zoo design and conservation this sounds great and I can't wait to see it open. It is a great wy to create money for conservation and educate people. I almost want one here in America because it's obvious we need people to learn about environmental issues besides/including climate change.
According to the link, the zoo will be built on 280 acres of land. ZSL Whipsnade covers 600 acres. The link also says the "zoo will house close to 100 different species of animals, birds, and reptiles". Many zoos have more than 100 species. I'd seriously question how the Gujarat zoo can claim to be the world's largest zoo. I hope the author, Kirti Pandey, isn't a zoologist. Birds and reptiles are animals.
I think the Manchester Zoo project has been abandoned, it's months we don't have further informations.
I was interested in what you said here so I checked it out and it has South Africa's National Zoological Gardens Of Africa, ZSL (London), and the San Diego zoo as the three largest zoos which is incredibly wrong as (I don't know if these are the biggest I only know they are larger) Sna Diego Zoo Safari Park, Disneys Animal Kingdom, and Columbus Zoos Wilds are all larger than the three parks and Gujarat. I googled the park which is called in the Greens Zoological, Rescue & Rehabilitation Kingdom (google it) and the first thing I found was this map article http://cza.nic.in/uploads/documents/zoos/layout/english/greens zoological jamnagar.pdf which looks very cool and is something I would love to visit but not the biggest. It also has labeled an incinerator and burial site at the bottom left corner which is something I've never seen on a plan before.
I remember several years back there was a group dedicated to bringing a proper zoo to Charlotte, NC. Though I've heard since then it might have been a scam.
There is the Heart of England Wildlife Park that was opened by one man and not an entire group, he crowdsourced to get the money. Heart of England Wildlife Park
